BACK FROM DEPLOYMENT :

What’s Next? Are You Ready for the Change?

Military leaders, government officials, academics, and corporate and non-profit leaders assembled in Washington, D.C. on March 13, 2012 with one question in mind: how can we help servicewomen successfully return to their homes, jobs, and communities? This question was the focus of The Army Women’s 4th Annual Symposium.

The answers offered by these leaders are found in podcasts of the Symposium and are based on their experiences, research, knowledge, lessons learned, and best practices. Starting today, podcasts of the Symposium will be available for servicewomen and their supporting communities to watch. We will launch one podcast per day. A schedule of podcasts is below. TODAY’S FEATURE :

Coming Home & What to Expect

The first panel, “Beyond the Battlefield: Coming Home,” provides guidance as soldiers return to their homes and communities. The participants include MG Marcia Anderson, Deputy Chief, Army Reserve (IMA); Ronald Drach, President, Drach Consulting; SMG Cynthia Pritchett (Ret), Near East South Asia Center Liaison to USCENTCOM; Amy Wilkinson, Assistant Store Manager, The Home Depot. MG Donna Barbisch, USAR (Ret), moderated the panel discussion. A few highlights:

  1. MG Anderson discusses the unique stresses that women face when returning home since most are the primary caregiver of the family.
  2. Panelists discuss supporting programs such as Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program and The Chaplain’s Corps’ Strong Bonds, which have proven to help ease the role from deployed caregiver to home front caregiver.

THE ARMY WOMEN’S LEGACY :

Honoring Past Trailblazers & How They Are Like Current Servicewomen

Army Women who served in Vietnam were inducted into the U.S. Army Women’s Hall of Fame on March 13, 2012. MG Janet Cobb, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4 (Operations), remarks on the pivotal role these women played as nurses, translators, navigators, among other specializations.

Cobb highlights the commonalities found between servicewomen across generations (Hall of Fame Luncheon Part I launching Wednesday, June 6), followed by BG Evelyn P. Foote, USA (Ret), who gives acceptance remarks and shares stories of Vietnam service heroines (Hall of Fame Luncheon Part II launching Thursday, June 7).

Keynoter background: MG Cobb has commanded at every level from platoon to the United States Army Reserve Deployment Support Command.
